The short version: we count visits with our own counter, and if you join the list, we send you one email to confirm it and one when we open.
No cookies on this page. It stores nothing on your device: no advertising, no social-media pixels, no analytics cookies. If that ever changes, we'll update this text first, and any cookie that isn't strictly needed will only be set if you say yes.
Everything is built into this one page. Fonts, logo, code — all embedded, served from our own machine at Hetzner in Germany (EU); loading it contacts no one else. Like every web server, it briefly keeps technical logs (IP address, time, requested page) to serve the site securely — deleted automatically, used for nothing else.
We do count visits — with Umami, our own counter and the only code not embedded in this page, running on our own server at Hetzner in Germany (EU). No cookies, nothing stored on your device, no IP address stored, no tracking across sites, nothing shared with third parties. It records the page (address and title), the site you came from, your language, browser, operating system, device type, screen size and rough location (country, region, city — from your IP address). A one-way code from your IP address and browser, new every month, recognises who comes back within the same month. Why: to know how many people visit and how they found us (legitimate interest).
If you join the notify list, we store your first name, your email address and the language you are reading this page in, so that our emails arrive in that language, and when you signed up, when we emailed you the link and when you confirmed. First we send you one email with a link to confirm that the address is really yours — so nobody can sign up someone else. If you don't confirm within 7 days of that email, your name and email address are deleted from the list. Once you have confirmed, we use them for exactly one purpose — sending you one single email when we open. No newsletter, no marketing, never sold. They are kept on our server at Hetzner in Germany (EU), and the emails go out through our email provider, Google Workspace, where the sent emails stay in our mailbox like any email we send — the confirmation email too. After that one email (or anytime you ask), your data is deleted from the list. To stop abuse, our server counts signups per IP address in its memory only (never saved) and checks every signup automatically for signs of a script: a signup caught by a hidden form field or sent too fast is not stored at all; one that only looks like a script's is kept marked as a suspected bot, with the reason, gets no email and is deleted — by us, or automatically after 7 days. For 30 days we also keep a one-way fingerprint of each address we sent a confirmation email to — never the address itself — so that no address gets more than three in that time. Legal basis: until you confirm, and for this abuse protection, our legitimate interest in emailing only people who asked for it (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR); once you have confirmed, your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) — you can withdraw it at any time by writing to us.
